2015 Ancienne Chardonnay
Ancienne, meaning old/ancient, is a faithful, living record of our terroir. The ultimate expression of our two estate vineyards and the pinnacle of our winegrowing efforts.
The label, styled to look like a page torn from an old book, features a Red-tailed hawk holding a Mayflower - a symbol of Nova Scotia - in his beak, and an ancient Acadian farming tool in his talons.

A single-vineyard wine, with all grapes sourced from our organic and biodynamic estate vineyard in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Fermentation took place in barrel using wild/indigenous yeasts to encourage a pure expression of the Lightfoot Home Farm Vineyard. A full malolactic conversion, also indigenous, helped impart a creamy texture. Ageing of 18 months sur lie in French oak barriques (20% new, 80% old/neutral) took place before bottling, providing further texture and depth.
Nuanced nose of fleshy yellow apple and toasty, smoky notes indicative of well-integrated French oak. The palate is lively, concentrated but fresh, with bright acidity and a lengthy mineral finish. An elegant style of Chardonnay that represents the grace and balance that Nova Scotia’s distinct cool-climate is gaining a reputation for.
Fitting pairings include richer seafood dishes such as lobster or crab, cream sauces, and roasted poultry.
Serving Temperature: 12-14°C
Recommended Drinking: Though approachable beginning in 2017, this wine will be in its prime between 2019-2023 and possesses the structure to cellar up to a full decade.
