2018 Terroir Series Sauvignon Blanc
The Lightfoot & Wolfville Terroir Series is a collection of small-lot wines with a distinct sense of place. The label imagery reflects this theme and helps tell the story of the land where our Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown. Dandelions, cow horns, and barn swallows represent our organic and biodynamic growing practices, while apple blossoms represent the Annapolis Valley region and the wild apple trees that surround this vineyard.
This is an ultra small-lot, single-vineyard wine from just 1-acre of Sauvignon Blanc grown on our estate vineyard in Avonport, N.S – the “Oak Island Vineyard”. Grown along the mouth of the Gaspereau River, where fresh water meets the ocean and cool coastal breezes craft wines of great distinction. A late spring frost during the 2018 growing season reduced our crop, enhancing fruit concentration.
Grapes were hand-harvested and hand-sorted to yield the highest quality juice. Sorted clusters were crushed, destemmed and cold soaked for 1.5 hours to enhance flavour extraction from the skins. Fermentation and six-months lees-aging took place in old (neutral) French oak barrels, providing weight and structure.

Pale straw-gold in color with zesty citrus and herbal notes accented by elderflower, green apple and white pepper. Crisp and dry with impressive mid-palate weight indicative of the low cropping levels of the 2018 season and extended lees aging in old French oak. Drinking beautifully now, this wine will continue to evolve over the next 3-5 years.
Suggested pairings include risotto with basil, lemon shrimp, crab salad, roast chicken with sage, soft cheeses such as chèvre, and white fish dishes accented with fresh herbs.
